The returning officer for the election Prof. Faruq Kuta, also the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Benin City on Sunday.

Kuta said Senator Okpebholo got a total of 291,667 votes, winning 11 out of the 18 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

The first runner-up was Asue Ighodalo of the PDP who got 247,274 votes.

The Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata emerged as the second runner-up with a total of 22,763 votes.

Here are six facts about Okpebholo:

He was born in 1970 in Uromi, Edo State.

His education began in Uromi before he advanced to the University of Benin, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. He also has a master’s in public administration and a PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Ibadan.

He has investments in hospitality, construction, oil and gas, and agriculture.

His political journey started in 2003 when he was elected to the House of Representatives under the PDP.

Okpebholo is a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

He has four children with his wife.
