On Saturday, Ngelale announced his decision to take an “indefinite” leave of absence from work due to medical and personal issues.
Later that day, the Presidency confirmed and accepted Ngelale’s decision to step down as Tinubu’s spokesperson.
Ngelale’s exit was due to his inability to deliver on the job
However, according to Premium Times, Ngelale’s exit was due to his inability to deliver on the job. Some members of Tinubu’s cabinet reportedly stated that Ngelale lacked the necessary experience, contacts, and networks required for the position of presidential spokesperson.
The Foundation for Investigative Journalism Nigeria (FIJ) reported that Ngelale was actually fired from his job by the Presidency, contrary to his claims of resigning due to health issues.
FIJ sources revealed that Ngelale’s exit was a result of his loss in a power tussle with Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga.
The report added that despite Ngelale’s perceived closeness to Tinubu and his son, Seyi, who influenced his appointment, his long feud with Onanuga and other reasons ultimately cost him his job.
