In a statement issued on Friday, September 13, 2024, by NSCDC spokesperson Adeleke Kehinde, it was revealed that Sulaiman, a resident of No. 23 Aladorun Compound in Iwo, was apprehended on Sunday, September 7, 2024, around 11:15 a.m. The arrest occurred as Sulaiman was transporting stolen items to metal scrap dealers.
Osun NSCDC Commandant Michael Adaralewa disclosed that the recovered items include 13 new stainless steel hand-washing basins, a pumping machine monitoring box, communication cables, three stainless trays, and four hand shovels.
Investigations revealed that Sulaiman was previously employed as a laborer during the construction of the school and had been pilfering from various building sites over the past six years, selling the stolen goods to scrap metal buyers.
Adaralewa stated that Sulaiman’s actions violate Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Law of Osun State, which criminalizes the willful destruction or damage of property.
“This law stipulates severe penalties for those who unlawfully damage property,”
Adaralewa noted. He added that Sulaiman will face the full consequences of the law, serving as a warning to others involved in similar criminal activities.
The Commandant also cautioned metal scrap buyers against purchasing stolen goods and warned that those found complicit in such transactions would face legal repercussions.
