This decision was made on Wednesday evening in an emergency state executive congress convened to deliberate intensively on the agreement they had with the leadership of the House and members of the Assembly Service Commission including the Assembly Management at Speaker’s lodge.
Recall that the PASAN Abia chapter embarked on a one week strike on Tuesday, protesting “the state government’s failure to implement Legislative Financial Autonomy, blocked access to the Assembly complex, preventing lawmakers, staff, and visitors from entering”.
In a Chat with THE WHISTLER, the PASAN PRO Comrade Adiele Loveday Azubuike disclosed that after the discussion, the leadership unanimously resolved to suspend the strike.
“That the suspension is to enable the office of the Head of Service to return all the files of our members as we agreed during our meeting with the leadership of the House.
“That the Union awaits the Governor’s approval on Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) after the cost implementation must have been provided as agreed in the meeting.
“The Union further believed that the leadership of the House will then fulfil the promise they made during the meeting within this period of suspension.
“That all our members should immediately return to their various duty posts from tomorrow,” the PASAN spokesperson said.
