This decision was made following a meeting on Monday between the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria Abia State Chapter (PASAN), House of Assembly Abia Chapter, leadership of the 8th Assembly and the recently inaugurated Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission.

PASAN Abia State Chapter has resolved to convene a Congress, Wednesday, with the single Agenda to call off the strike embarked upon after the expiration of their 7-Day Ultimatum, bothering on the Administrative and Financial Autonomy of the Abia State House of Assembly.

It would be recalled the Abia State Governor inaugurated the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission but hiccups have been observed in regards the full implementation of the Administrative Autonomy.

During the meeting, Chairman, PASAN Abia State House of Assembly Comrade Sunday Kalu lamented on the hijacking of the functions of the Service Commission by some elements in the Head of Service.

According to Kalu, “the hijacking of the functions of the service commission by some elements has culminated to the files of Staff of Abia State House of Assembly to be taken by the Head of Service, contrary to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Law No 8 of 2019, the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission Law,” He said.

Comrade Kalu also hinted that among their agitations include the implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure which he said is 50 percent of Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure.

In their responses, the Chairman, Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon Uche Maduako assured the Union that Governor Alex Otti is eager to do what is necessary to ensure industrial harmony, in line with the demands of PASAN.

The Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa also reassured that the leadership of the 8th Assembly in liaison with the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service, who was also present during meeting shall interface with Governor Alex Otti to ensure a smooth implementation of the demands of PASAN.

Present during the meeting include the Deputy Speaker Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Augustine Okezie, Leader, Uchenna Okoro Kalu, Emeka Obioma the Whip, Hon Luke Ukara Onyeani, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti on Legislative Matters, Dr Steve Ochonma, Lady Grace Ibeh, Ihuoma Ezechimerem and Hon Destiny Akaraka who was the first Deputy Leader of the 8th Assembly, now Member of the Service Commission, entire leadership of PASAN in Abia State among others.
