The state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, made the announcement, while laying the foundation for the Ewet Luxury Gardens at Ewet Housing Estate by Destiny International Missions, Uyo, said the project aims at creating a prototype for future luxury developments and for the ARISE park in the state that will cater for both local residents and investors from the Diaspora.

Eno said the project which he termed, a “Smart Estate” will feature gated access controlled by electronic card systems that will primarily rely on solar power for energy needs.

He said the project is part of a broader initiative to develop various housing options across different economic brackets in Akwa Ibom, noting the role of the community in the project, while also lauding Ewet Offot Village for their cooperation.

The governor recalled that as part of the land acquisition agreement, the state government had previously constructed a model school for the community as a demonstration of its commitment to local development alongside the new estate project.

He explained that the project was a business venture with units available for purchase, and that construction is expected to commence soon with a project office, and encouraged interested buyers, particularly those from the Diaspora, to make early enquiries as the development is slated for completion within eight months.

Giving an overview of the project, the commissioner for housing, Otuekong Raphael Bassey, said the new housing estate will feature 32 residential plots each bearing a 5-bedroom detached housing unit and boys quarters, outdoor recreational facilities for children and adults, walk paths, a 100-man capacity multipurpose hall, office facilities, parking spaces, security house and other facilities with a central power plant sitting on a 3.5-hectare land space.

Bassey assured that the project, when completed, will drastically reduce housing deficit in Akwa Ibom State.

The managing director of the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation, AKICORP, Pastor Imoabasi Jacob, lauded the governor for the project initiative which, he noted, will not only meet housing needs but would be a revenue spinning investment for the State in line with AKICORP’s 3-dimensional goal of wooing investors to “come, live and work” in Akwa Ibom.

The paramount ruler of Uyo, Edidem Sylvanus Okon, on behalf of the people of Uyo, thanked Eno for citing the project in Uyo, assuring of the commitment of the people to maintain their peace loving and neighbour-friendly disposition to add value to the estate.
