According to The Nation, sources close to the family disclosed this to the newspaper house.
” We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead,”
A top police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also confirmed CP Ayilara’s death, The Punch reports.
The police officer did not disclose his name because he was not authorised to speak on the matter.
DCP, Ayilara was unveiled as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023. He was in charge of the State Criminal Investigation department, after taking over from AIG Idowu Owohunwa.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed Ayilara to head Akwa Ibom state command in February 2024.
Former commissioner of police dies
Meanwhile, Legit reported that Fatai Adio Shittu, popular for his time as commissioner of police, Zamfara state command, died on Friday, November 17, 2023.
Egbetokun, on behalf of the entire Nigeria Police Force, expressed ‘heartfelt sympathy’.
Born on August 23, 1950, in Offa, Kwara state, late CP Shittu studied at Offa Grammar School and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
IGP presents cheques to deceased officers’ families
Legit also reported that Egbetokun successfully kicked off the presentation of cheques for Group Life Assurance and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme in Abuja.
The cheques were presented to 613 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers for the policy years 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023.
The IGP said authorities are committed to the welfare of all officers including those serving, retired, and deceased.
