In his statement, ATT Convener Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu stated, “We agree with Obasanjo’s assessment that many leaders should be held accountable, but he should start by probing his own eight years in office from 1999 to 2007.”
Yakubu who emphasised that Obasanjo should lead by example by investigating his own administration before criticizing others also noted that, “Obasanjo failed to address key infrastructure projects such as the Sango-Abeokuta Expressway, which continues to affect residents negatively.”
He also criticised Obasanjo for not reforming Nigeria’s legislative structure during his tenure.
Yakubu expressed concern that Obasanjo’s comments might deepen political divisions, stating, “We expected Obasanjo to make statements that would unite Nigeria rather than cause further disunity.”
Regarding the current administration, Yakubu commented on the economic challenges, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy.
He said, “While the removal of the subsidy has worsened economic hardship, it’s worth noting that previous candidates, including Peter Obi, also pledged to eliminate it.”
ATT however, urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing the need for constructive engagement and patience as the government works to address the country’s economic issues.
