The youngster has made it clear that he wants to leave Bayern, which has naturally led to a last-minute January window scramble for his services.
According to Sky Sports Germany as reported by Caught Offside, Chelsea and Arsenal will have rivals for Tel’s signing thanks to the confirmed interest of Tottenham Hotspur and Man United.
Other clubs on the continent are also reportedly circling, so the 19-year-old will have a lot of clubs to pick from this month.
“We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself,” Florian Plettenberg quoted Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, as saying.
“Now he says he wants to leave (…) There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”
Even though his demands to leave put Bayern on the defensive in negotiations, some of the clubs hoping to sign him will probably find his transfer fee expensive for a player of his calibre.
It’s unclear who will win his race on transfer deadline day because Man United are well aware of the terms for Tel’s signing and Sky Sports indicates Spurs are “very definitely interested.”
