It took Mikel Arteta quite some time to get the squad he wanted, but since the start of the 2022/23 season, only Manchester City have been better than the Gunners.
That’s why they have challenged for the Premier League title in back-to-back seasons, and it’s almost certain now they will be in the mix again in the 2024/25 campaign.
Many Arsenal players earned some well-deserved recognition for their performances last season – five of them to be exact.
Arsenal match 20-year club record after PFA Team of the Year announcement
The Professional Footballers Association, commonly referred to as PFA, revealed their Team of the Year on Tuesday night.
It was a fantastic campaign filled with outstanding performances from a number of players across the country, but there were only 11 spots up for grabs.
The team, unsurprisingly, was dominated by Arsenal and Manchester City players. Five of Arteta’s men got the nod in the Team of the Year.
David Raya was chosen in goal behind Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. The trio helped Arsenal maintain the best defence in the Premier League.
Ahead of them, Declan Rice and club captain Martin Odegaard were named in the team as well, and both of them completely deserve it.
Five Arsenal players in the PFA Team of the Year is such an incredible achievement – it’s such a rare achievement.
The last time at least five Arsenal players made the PFA Team of the Year was 20 years ago – after the historic 2003/24 Invincibles season.
What a team.

Six Arsenal players were named in 2004 PFA Team of the Year
After Arsenal went an entire season unbeaten in the 2003/04 season, you could argue that every player in the side deserved to make the Team of the Year.
However, only six of them did 20 years ago.
Those players were Lauren, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires, and of course, the great Thierry Henry.
What an incredible team that was! We hope this Arsenal side can achieve greatness too in the coming years, starting with winning the Premier League title this season.
