According to Channels TV, the proposed legislation, co-sponsored by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and Sodeeq Abdullahi, aims to provide voting opportunities for Nigerians living abroad.

Initially passed for second reading in July, the bill was referred to the Committee on Electoral Matters for further review.
