During a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, the Chairman of the body, Dr. Ben Odoh, accompanied by Attorneys-General from the 36 states, acknowledged Olukoyede’s vast experience as a prominent anti-graft fighter and commended his groundbreaking initiatives aimed at intensifying the fight against corruption.

“We have carefully noticed the strategies you marshalled out to bequeath a crime-free environment in Nigeria. You have steered a transformative course in the fight against corruption, and we commend you sincerely, Mr. Chairman,” Odoh stated.

The Attorneys-General pledged their cooperation and collaboration with the EFCC, assuring that they would provide valuable advice to support the Commission’s efforts in tackling economic and financial crimes head-on. Odoh also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his selection of Olukoyede as the nation’s leading anti-corruption fighter.

During the meeting, Odoh raised several issues, including the need to strengthen the anti-graft war by clarifying offenses in letters of invitation to suspects, consolidating investigations to avoid duplication of work, and giving special recognition to suspects who voluntarily honor invitations.

In response, Olukoyede appreciated the law officers for their visit and urged them to consistently advise their governors and state officials on matters related to accountable conduct. He emphasized that public office holders will eventually be held accountable for their actions.

Olukoyede assured that the EFCC under his leadership is law-abiding, highlighting the review of bail and arrest guidelines across all Zonal Commands and the corporate headquarters. He also stated that invitation letters to suspects are written in accordance with global best practices and that cases are being consolidated in all Commands to prevent duplication.

“At the EFCC, we don’t lock people up anyhow. Our respect for court orders is total, and there are standing orders not to criminalize civil cases,” Olukoyede said.

The EFCC Chairman called for enhanced engagement and responsible conduct in public office, emphasizing the importance of deciding to move forward in the fight against corruption.
