The directive emphasizes strict adherence to timelines for filing processes in both civil and criminal appeals, except in criminal cases involving capital punishment.
According to the CJN’s statement dated November 19, 2024, the rule does not allow applications for an extension of time to file processes once the stipulated three opportunities have lapsed. The move is aimed at enforcing procedural discipline within the judicial system.
However, the Supreme Court clarified that applications to regularize processes filed before the commencement of the 2024 Rules will still be entertained, following a consensus reached during a Justices’ meeting on October 10, 2024.
The CJN’s communication underscores the importance of complying with timelines to enhance efficiency in judicial proceedings, marking a significant shift in procedural expectations for legal practitioners.
