BREAKING: Court Halts Reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II As Emir of Kano

A new twist has unfolded in the saga surrounding the Kano Emirate Council. Justice Liman of the Federal High Court has reportedly granted an ex-parte order, temporarily halting Governor Abba Yusuf’s Kano State Government from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The order came after a suit was filed by one Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi, seeking to prevent Sanusi’s reinstatement. Justice Liman granted the plaintiff the leave to serve court processes on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Abuja.

In a bid to maintain peace and security in the state, the judge issued an interim injunction restraining the respondents from enforcing, executing, implementing, and operationalizing the Kano State Emirate Law Council (Repeal) Law.

Interestingly, just a day earlier, Governor Yusuf had officially announced the re-appointment of Emir Sanusi, shortly after signing a new bill on the Kano Emirate into law.

The governor described the event as historic and thanked the state assembly for performing their constitutional duties. He declared that the Kano state Emirate law 2019, which divided the over 1000-year-old Kano Emirate into five, has been repealed.

Yusuf had announced the reappointment of Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and instructed the five Emirs appointed by the former Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to vacate their official residences and hand over their instruments of power.

Earlier on Thursday, the Kano State House of Assembly passed the Kano Emirates Council Bill 2024, abolishing the five Emirates created by Ganduje, which included Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, Rano, and Kano.

With the passage of the bill, the five Emirs in Kano were effectively dethroned, and all offices created under the repealed law were dissolved.

However, the ex-parte order obtained by Sarkin Dawaki Babba has thrown a temporary wrench into the plans, setting the stage for a legal battle over the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi.
