BREAKING: Court Orders Status Quo Ante On Kano Emirate Tussle

The Federal High Court in Kano has granted an interim injunction restraining the Kano State Government and relevant authorities from enforcing the controversial Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law, 2024. The court’s decision came after Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, filed a suit challenging the repeal law.

The plaintiff sought an interim injunction to maintain the status quo and preserve the subject matter pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.

In its ruling, thevPresiding judge, Justice A. M. Liman
granted leave to the plaintiff to serve the defendants with the originating motion and other court processes.

The court also ordered the parties to maintain the status quo ante (the state of affairs before the repeal law) pending the hearing of the fundamental rights application, which is scheduled for June 3, 2024.
