Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information, issued the statement on Monday in Abuja following an online report suggesting that the draft was causing unrest among military personnel.

The report claimed that unfavorable terms in the draft HTACOS were leading many officers to consider leaving the service.

In response, Gusau emphasized that the draft is intended to support the military’s constitutional duties and address ongoing security challenges effectively.

“The current HTACOS was signed by then-President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 and is scheduled for review every five years,” Gusau noted. “The process to update the 2017 HTACOS, which is overdue, has already begun.

The review committee includes representatives from all three services and various professions within the armed forces.”

Gusau further explained that the draft is still under review and will be refined based on stakeholder input.

He urged all Nigerians, especially military personnel, to disregard misleading reports and use the established channels of communication for accurate information.
