The former NBA President also promised to give security, health and education, among others, a special place that would put smiles on the faces of Edo people if elected governor of the state.
Akpata who made the promise while having a media chat with journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Benin said, his government will be centred around the welfare of the people if given the opportunity to run the affairs of the state, noting that the slogan of the party which is “papa, mama and pikin” will be followed to the letter.
He said his government will not turn a blank eye to good projects earlier embarked upon by his predecessor especially when they are aimed at the welfare of the people because the money used in executing such projects belong to the tax payers.
Akpata who also promised to declare a state of emergency on social infrastructural facilities, particularly roads in the state, however revealed that the roads in the state will be attended to whether federal or state provided it has a direct impact on the people of the state.
He said he believes when the federal roads that have direct impact on the people in the state are fixed, the federal government can reimburse the state instead of allowing the citizens to suffer unnecessarily,.
While promising to massively invest in the agricultural sector to boost food production, the labour party flag bearer also vowed not to use the tax payers money for things that will not add value to the lives of Edo people.
He announced his burning desires and resolve to specifically tackle the unemployment problem ravaging the state, which he said, resulted in making the unemployed youths engaged in nefarious activities like cultisms and other violence related activities in the state.
According to Akpata, Edo people deserve much better governance than what the current administration could offer considering the huge amount of internally generated revenue and allocations.
On the controversy trailing the local government autonomy, the labour party governorship candidate said, he is a proponent of the local government autonomy.
He said at the moment, the local government councils are being strangulated financially due to the absence of local government autonomy, adding that while granting them their autonomy, the local government council chairmen and their councilors must remain in their domains to perform their duties they are elected to do.
