The three-time African champions have only managed three points in their opening four matches in the qualifying series after recording draws against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
The Super Eagles’ problems were compounded after they lost 2-1 away to Benin Republic in Abidjan, leaving their FIFA World Cup campaign in jeopardy.
Nigeria currently sits in 5th position in Group C with three points, only above Zimbabwe with two points.
Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin Republic lead the group with seven points apiece, with Lesotho in fourth place with five points.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Brila FM, Eguavoen stated that he believes the team can still qualify for the Mundial if they approach every game as a cup final.
“It has to be with positive thinking,” the 59-year-old said as quoted by Completesports.
“We have to approach every game like a cup final and we have a big chance once we keep winning these remaining games even if it were by 1-0.”
Nigeria will be hoping to get their World Cup campaign back on track when they resume the qualifiers against Rwanda in March 2025.
