As is happening in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, end hunger protesters stormed the entrance of the Kano State government house this morning chanting slogans amongst which included “chanji muke so” meaning “we want change”.

Some others reiterated the slogan of the protests in the local language thus: “Bamuyi” – “no to bad governance”.

The move caught security agencies napping, our source said, as Kano was thought to be excluded from areas where the strike would thrive.

The protesters continued to swell as they moved from neigbourhood to neigbourhood onwards Government House.

However, it was largely peaceful.

It is a different tone however from Warri, a Delta commercial city and indeed surrounding towns.

Some have attributed the failure of the end hunger protests in Warri to the early readiness of security agencies to avert it.

Aside strategic mounting of its men in the town, the police high command there also deployed officers to the strategic areas in the city.

Motorists and commercial tricycle operators were seen in limited numbers around the two roundabouts. This was unlike a normal day when vehicles, passengers, pedestrians , motorists would be all over the two busy roundabouts moving to keep appointments at various destinations.
