Governor Alia, who was speaking to journalists after Mass at the Government house, chapel, Makurdi, on Sunday appreciated the Director, DSS and the State Commissioner of Police for midwifing the agreement.

Specifically, mentioning the insecurity in Sankera axis, Governor Alia said he was dismayed by what was happening in the area, where instead of fighting external aggression, the state government was contending with bandits, that were killing their kith and kin.

He said, “So overall, these are the things that informed a common sensical wisdom for us not to have any protests in the state. And I was quite excited with the efforts of the Director, DSS and our current CP, who on their own started making contacts to establish that we have peace.

“I must also remain grateful to organize labour in the state and then the students, market women and everyone in the state for being very considerate, not to participate in what at the end of the day might be hijacked by hoodlums and our entire peace destabilized. We are in precarious times. I’m not taking chances on this.

“And this is why I’ve emphasized that as a confederating unit, we cherish our freedom and liberty, but at the same time, there is a fine line there and security must be paramount and it is my prerogative to ensure that I protect their (Benue people) freedom and liberty. So this is why we cannot hold any protest at all in any part of Benue state”, he stressed.
