Ranga, who was elected in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had joined other prominent figures from the Ningi Emirate Council to mourn and bury the late Emir.
The angry youths, part of his own constituency, expressed their dissatisfaction with his representation, accusing him of neglecting them after his relocation to Abuja.
The incident unfolded at around 5:42 p.m. at the Emir’s Palace, where the lawmaker had participated in the funeral prayers for the deceased Emir, Alhaji Dr. Yunusa Muhammadu Dan Yaya.
As Ranga attempted to leave the palace, a group of youths began chanting “Ba mu yi, ba mu yi” in Hausa and started throwing sand and stones at his vehicle.
Despite efforts to calm the situation, the attack on the lawmaker’s car escalated.
The vehicle sustained significant damage, with the windows, screen, and rear mirrors all shattered during the assault. Eyewitnesses described the scene as highly distressing, noting that the attack came at a particularly poignant moment given the context of the Emir’s death.
One eyewitness, who spoke to Nigerian Tribune on the condition of anonymity, expressed sadness over the incident, saying, “I came out of the palace deeply saddened by the Emir’s demise, only to hear chants and see youths throwing sand and stones at a car. When I moved closer, I realised it was our representative being attacked.”
Another witness observed that the youths had mobilised quickly, positioning themselves near the lawmaker’s car and starting to pelt it with pebbles as he tried to enter. It took the intervention of security personnel and other bystanders to shield Ranga and allow him to safely get into his vehicle and drive away.
