In a statement signed by Livingstone Wechie, Chairman of the IPC Worldwide; Chief Ihunwo Obi-Wali, Vice Chairman; and Engr. Stanley Worgu, Secretary-General, the organisation described Chief Clark as a “father and field marshal” in the fight for justice and equity.
“Chief Clark was a patriot extraordinaire and a statesman of no small measure,” the statement read. “He was a friend of Ikwerres and all peoples that encountered him. We remember him for his relentless political activism, educational investment, and philanthropy.”
The IPC noted that Chief Clark served as a bridge, bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to advocate for equal political participation and self-determination. He was a strong advocate for resource control and never compromised on the quest for the resolution of the rights of ethnic land and resource owners in Nigeria.
The organisation acknowledged that while Chief Clark had his controversies, he was a respecter of divergent views, which is a hallmark of a true leader. As the Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Clark led the organisation with distinction, following in the footsteps of his predecessor.
The IPC commiserated with the Ijaw nation, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria as a whole over the great loss. “We wish his family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement read.
