The summit, which is hosted by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, will have President Bola Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honour.
In a document signed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), governors of the nine Niger Delta States (Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo and Ondo) are Host Governors.
The summit with theme: ‘Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta’, is expected to develop strategies for economic growth and development of the Niger Delta region.
Also, it is expected that the outcome of the summit will translate the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu to actionable plan.
Similarly, it is hoped that the summit will articulate a roadmap for sustainable development of the Niger Delta region.
An elder statesman and Niger Delta Leader, Chief Edwin Clarke will be Father of the Day; while the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is the Mother of the Day.
The MD/CEO, NDDC, Ogbuku, who spoke earlier on the Niger Delta Stakeholders’ Summit 2024, said participants, would discuss development issues as they affect the oil-rich region.
According to him, “the summit will not just be a forum for a few individuals, but will involve major stakeholders, including members of the National Assembly, Ministers from the region traditional rulers and the private sector experts to discuss the Niger Delta.”
Ogbuku stated that previous engagements with different groups were instrumental to maintaining peace in various communities, noting that development could not take place in a crisis-prone environment.
“One of the cardinal policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ‘s administration is stakeholders’ engagement and that is one area the NDDC is doing very well and we are getting good results,” he insisted.
The NDDC boss added that such stakeholders’ engagements would help the Commission to implement projects that would ensure sustainable development of the Niger Delta region.
Also, he said it would address the aspirations and needs of the people of the region, noting that rather than working at cross purposes, the summit would help the development partners in the region to harmonise their activities.
Ogbuku said that the Commission, as path of its rebirth and rewind policy, was “transiting from transaction to transformation” in the process of developing the Niger Delta region. (Daily Sun)
