A notice issued by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), seen by THE WHISTLER on Thursday, attributed the fare increase to rising operational costs.

According to the notice, the new fare takes effect from Monday, February 17.

“Please be informed that there will be an 18 per cent increase in the bus fare on all Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) schemes.

“The fare rise is because of the increase in the cost of operations and the need to ensure that buses keep running and guarantee your movement around Lagos.

“The new fare will take effect from Monday, 17th February 2025,” the notice read.

LAMATA sought the understanding and cooperation of passengers.

“We seek your understanding and cooperation,” it added.
