A police insider, speaking on condition of anonymity as they lacked authorization to represent the command, revealed that the tenant, identified as Iya Ibukun, was involved in a hit-and-run accident on May 5, 2024.
Following the accident, which resulted in severe injuries, Ibukun resorted to self-medication due to concerns over medical expenses, sources disclosed. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries a few days later while at home.
Allegedly, the landlady and her spouse then removed Ibukun’s body from her apartment and disposed of it in a nearby canal.
Community members, suspicious of the circumstances, reached out to Mosuru Akindele, the chairman of the Community Development Association, who subsequently informed youth leader Olabode Kazeem of the incident.
Detailing the events, the police source said, “There was an accident; a hit-and-run driver allegedly knocked the tenant down. She didn’t go to the hospital and started treating herself at home. She died a few days after the incident. The landlady and her husband conspired to dump the body in a canal.”
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that efforts were underway to recover the body from the canal. Additionally, authorities found a two-year-old boy in the couple’s residence, who was subsequently placed in a welfare facility.
Despite extensive searches, the body has yet to be located within the canal.
This recent incident draws parallels to a prior case where a landlord, Sunday Omosule, was apprehended for allegedly killing his tenant’s four-year-old son with a pestle in Onipanu, Ota, within the Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State. Omosule was arrested following a distress call to the Onipanu division of the state Police Command. During interrogation, Omosule claimed the act was in response to a perceived spiritual attack.
