Otunba Segun Showunmi, a prominent politician and former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar, has stirred the political waters with his recent call for the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, to make bold decisions, even suggesting that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike should be sacrificed for the greater good of the party......Read The Full Article>>.....Read The Full Article>>
Showunmi made these remarks during the launch of the National Opposition Movement Coalition (NOMC), also known as ‘The Alternative,’ a platform designed to address the deepening challenges in Nigeria’s democracy. Speaking passionately, he emphasized that the PDP must make hard choices to rebuild its ideological footing and regain the trust of the electorate.
“The PDP must reclaim its position as the voice of opposition in Nigeria. If sacrificing Wike is what it takes to move the party forward and restore integrity, then so be it,” Showunmi declared.
The launch of NOMC, held amidst growing concerns over the erosion of electoral integrity and declining voter confidence, was seen as a rallying cry for a revitalized political discourse. The coalition aims to provide a credible alternative to traditional political structures, advocating for transparency, ideological direction, and citizen-centered governance.
Showunmi also praised the Labor Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for his ideological focus, calling him a beacon of hope for progressive politics in the country. He urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to clearly articulate his stance on critical national issues, stressing the need for clarity and consistency in leadership.
“Peter Obi has shown that leadership rooted in clear values and integrity can resonate deeply with Nigerians. Atiku must also rise to this challenge and provide the guidance our country needs,” he said.
As Nigeria gears up for another political cycle, Showunmi’s remarks and the launch of NOMC underscore a growing demand for reform and accountability within the nation’s political landscape.
