A man in his early 30s, identified as Michael, is now in the custody of the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his friend, Uchemna, to death after accusing him (Uchemna) of stealing his (Michael’s) phone.

It was learnt that the incident occurred at Egede Street, Mile 2 Diobu Port Harcourt, Rivers State, last Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

A source privy to the incident disclosed to our reporter that Uchenna visited Michael in his house as both of them were friends, but after some time, Michael could not find his mobile phone.

The source revealed that Michael accused Uchenna of stealing his handset but the deceased denied the accusation. An argument ensued and in the process, Michael picked up a jackknife and allegedly stabbed Uchenna in the stomach.

We gathered that Uchenna was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead, while Michael was later arrested by the police.

The Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe Koko, who is also a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident to our reporter.

She said, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. The suspect has been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt, for detailed investigation”.
