Yusuf, along with three other people, were taken into custody on suspicion of ammunition smuggling, according to the police.
Speaking while parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adeshina, stated that the suspects were taken into custody by operatives after receiving reliable information about the gunrunners’ whereabouts and recovered a total of N300,000 upon apprehension.
Yusuf, during the parade at the command’s headquarters in Jos, revealed that he received N50,000 for the job he undertook.
According to him, he had originally demanded that the sponsor offered him more than N50,000 due to the complexity of the job but the sponsor declined, adding that he eventually agreed to smuggle the ammo for N50,000.
“I am from Abuja. Two weeks ago, a man whom we know sent me to collect the ammunition and bring it to him. He has given me the contact of those to collect the ammunition in Jos.
“I asked him if he is a security agent but told me that I should not bother. The man assured me that I am not going to be in trouble.
“But in the process of collecting the ammunition, the security operatives arrested me alongside three others,” Yusuf said, according to Daily Trust.
The commissioner stated that all of the suspects would be charged after the investigation was finished.
He further thanked the populace for their cooperation in combating the state’s insecurity and urged them to keep giving the police helpful information about any illegal activity occurring in their neighbourhoods.
