During the operation, which was driven by intelligence, NDLEA agents intercepted 2.32kg of cocaine hidden within Ghanaian Kente fabric, destined for the United Kingdom.
The seizure occurred at a courier service in Lagos on August 5. Additionally, the agency uncovered 10.494kg of the same substance concealed within heavy-duty pivot shafts, bound for the United States, at the same logistics firm.
“NDLEA’s sniffer dogs played a key role in detecting the automobile parts loaded with the drugs. Altogether, 12.814kg of cocaine was confiscated from the two shipments,” Babafemi disclosed.
Further operations at another courier service in Lagos on August 9 led to the interception of five consignments en route to the U.S., UK, and Canada. These included 517 grams of cocaine hidden in clothing, as well as various amounts of pentazocine and promethazine injections, along with cocodamol pills. Moreover, 297 tramadol pills, each containing 225mg of the substance, were also seized before being shipped to Canada.
In another significant find, NDLEA operatives recovered 21 parcels of Loud, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis, weighing 10kg. This consignment, originating from the U.S., was intended for delivery in Abuja.
On August 7, the agency apprehended a key figure in a cocaine trafficking ring at Alafia Orile, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos. The suspect was caught attempting to transport 9.00kg of cocaine to Onitsha, Anambra State. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of two more individuals, believed to be part of a cocaine syndicate based in Nnewi, on August 8.
These arrests followed the seizure of their drug consignment, discovered on a public transport bus in Benin, Edo State. The bus driver was taken into custody at the Benin tollgate with a total of 2.865kg of cocaine.
