The agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, revealed that the raid resulted in the arrest of two of the senator’s aides.
“The personal house of the senator… had been raided in recent past, where drugs and illicit substances were recovered, while two of his aides were arrested,” Babafemi said.
He added that the agency had received intelligence about the senator’s involvement in drug-related activities, leading to the raid.
The NDLEA has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and abuse, stating that the law applies to everyone, regardless of their political status.
The agency dismissed the senator’s claims of being “corrupt and compromised” as defamatory and not reflective of its work.
“We will continue to dismantle all drug networks, including those connected to the senator’s home,” Babafemi said. “The law is clear, and we will ensure that those involved in illicit activities are brought to justice.”
This development comes after Senator Ashiru accused the NDLEA of being “corrupt and compromised” during a Senate plenary debate. The agency has maintained its professionalism and dedication to combating drug trafficking and abuse.
In a related development, the NDLEA has arrested and prosecuted several individuals linked to drug-related activities, including a Canada-based nurse and two others for narcotics trafficking.
