The outcome of this meeting, it is learnt will determine the fate of the ongoing strike action by the organised Labour.

The strike, which began on Monday, June 2, 2024, was called to demand a new minimum wage and protest the increase in electricity prices.

After a six-hour meeting with the leadership of organised labour in Abuja, the Federal Government expressed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to raising the proposed minimum wage of N60,000.

The agreement states that the President is committed to establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000. The Tripartite Committee, it was agreed, will convene daily for the next week to finalize an agreeable National Minimum Wage.

The organised labour agreed to hold meetings of its organs to consider this new offer.

The resolutions were signed on behalf of the Federal Government by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
