Convener of Northern Youths Progressive Network, follows the recent #Endbadgovernance protests, which have exacerbated public discontent.

The group acknowledged the initial hardships stemming from economic reforms but emphasized that these are part of a broader national and global challenge.

The statement highlighted government measures, such as financial autonomy for local councils and palliatives for citizens, aimed at alleviating these difficulties.

The Network urged leaders to promote dialogue over violence and foster patience as the administration implements its Renewed Hope Agenda for economic recovery.

“The Northern youths Progressive Network has asked the Northern elites and opinion leaders to wade into the ongoing negative narratives being build around the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the region.

“The appeal is necessitated due to the dangerous dimension the recent #Endbadgovernace protest took across the region owing to the wrong notion and perception already cultivated among the people against the Tinubu Presidency.

“We acknowledge the fact that the ongoing economic and political reforms initiated by the administration comes with some initial pains and hardships among citizens, but promises to greater outcomes in no distant time.

“Let us also bear in mind that the current prevailing economic hardship is not peculiar to our region but a nationwide and global phenomenon which we believe the administration is already taking necessary steps to address.

“Recall that as part of measures to cushion the negative effects of the removal of fuel subsidy, the Federal Government has granted financial autonomy to the 774 local government councils in the country, approved 70,000 minimum wage for workers and provided food, fertilizers and cash as palliatives to the different segments of the Nigerian society.

“For this reason, the Northern elites and opinion leaders across different segments of the society have the moral obligation to play stabilising roles to discourage the youths from the negative narratives.

“We urge our leaders to engage in constant sensitization and awareness creation against violence and vandalism at every slightest provocation but rather embrace dialogue to address their grievances.

“Sadly, during the #Endbadgovernace protest, the North was the worst hit with human and economic loses which could have been avoided in under a peaceful atmosphere.

“Therefore, we appeal for calm, understanding and patience as the Bola Tinubu led administration takes practical steps to reposition the nation’s economy for greater efficiency in line with it’s Renewed Hope Agenda” reads the statement in part.
