The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, disclosed this on Thursday, 30 January, 2025, while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State.
According to Ahmed, the increment has been factored into the 2025 Federal Government budget and will take effect once the budget is approved. He confirmed that although the new allowance could not be implemented in January, corps members would start receiving N77,000 from February 2025.
“This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” Ahmed stated.
The announcement comes as a relief to many corps members, who have been advocating for better financial support to cope with rising living costs. Ahmed reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their welfare and security, urging them to show dedication and diligence in their service year.
“We will not send our corps members to any areas with security challenges. Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secure for them to serve,” he added.
The increase marks a historic shift in the financial benefits of corps members, aligning with broader efforts to enhance youth empowerment and national service in Nigeria.
