According to the owner of the paint shop where the fire originated, Mrs Fola Gorilla, the fire was caused by a chemical reaction in the shop while they were about to package the paint for sale. She reported a loss of over N5 million due to the destruction of raw materials stocked in the shop.

Other shop owners also expressed their dismay at the millions of naira worth of goods lost in the fire. Some complained that the paint producer did not have a fire extinguisher in her shop and were unaware that paint was being produced there.

The Divisional Officer of So-Safe Corps, Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps, Akera Dalemo Division, Adele Ramon Adisa, explained that the fire outbreak could not be contained before escalating, as no one was present to address the situation. He mentioned that the chemicals used for the production of the paint caught fire, and the flames spread to neighboring shops, causing further damage.

Additionally, concerns were raised about a new Gas Plant being built close to residential areas. It was emphasized that action should be taken by the local governments to prevent further fire outbreaks that could result in loss of lives.

The fire was ultimately put out with the assistance of Fire Fighters from Ile-Epo Oke-Odo, Lagos State.
