Adegboruwa, a lawyer with the Take It Back Movement, expressed regret over the deaths and losses during the protests, emphasizing that such outcomes were not the intended goal. He urged protesters to withdraw from protest sites and suspend the demonstrations to facilitate meaningful dialogue with the government.
In contrast, Sowore, on his X page (formerly Twitter), thanked citizens for their commitment and called for the intensification of daily barricades, marches, rallies, and people’s congresses. He also encouraged those at home to participate in pot and pan protests against hunger and poverty.
Similarly, Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, stated on Channels Television’s The August Protests programme that they would not call off the protest until President Tinubu meets their demands. Adenola dismissed Adegboruwa’s plea, asserting that he does not represent the movement and highlighting the economic hardships faced by the protesters.
Adenola insisted the protests would continue until the government responds to their demands. He argued that the protests have demonstrated to Nigerians that they can hold their leaders accountable and stated that the real sponsors of the protests are hunger and economic deprivation. Adenola criticized the Federal Government for not addressing the protesters’ demands and questioned the sincerity of the government’s concern for the people’s plight.
