There is originating speculation that there are underground plans to oust the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Alume, and replace him with another person who is pleased with the cabals. The Round Table, however, found the emerging story to be untrue and the reason for the speculation could not be far-fetched......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
In Nigeria, the term “cabals” is often used to refer to a small group of powerful individuals who are believed to control the government and economy from behind the scenes. This group is often seen as a shadowy elite that uses their power and influence to advance their own interests, rather than serving the broader interests of the Nigerian people.
However, it’s important to note that the concept of a “cabal” is often shrouded in secrecy and speculation, and it can be difficult to determine who exactly is part of this group or what their goals are.
Although in recent years, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had barely completed a tenure before they were sacked or forced to resign by some powerful people around the president the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu seems to be different.
President Tinubu, while addressing the traditional rulers across the country recently in Abuja, stated that there is no cabal around his administration, claiming he did not seek or rely on financial help from anyone during his election, so there is nothing to capitalize on by anyone to become cabal in his administration.
The president said “I have no cabal. I have no sponsors. The money I spent on the elections was my fortune. At some point, the odds were against me; banks were locked. But Allah, the Almighty God, said I will be the President.“
So considering the above statement, the speculation on the influence of the cabal may be declared null and void even though the reason traceable to the emerging speculation is still locally related.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that George Akume is a Nigerian politician who hails from the Tiv tribe, which is one of the major ethnic groups in Benue State, Nigeria. The Tiv people are predominantly found in Benue State, but they also inhabit parts of neighboring states like Nasarawa, Taraba, and Plateau.
And most interestingly, Benue State, located in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria, is home to several ethnic groups. Some of the major tribes in Benue State include the Tiv people who are the largest ethnic group in Benue State, making up about 40% of the population. They are primarily farmers and are known for their rich cultural heritage; The Idoma people are another significant ethnic group in Benue State, making up around 30% of the population. They are known for their skilled craftsmanship and rich cultural traditions; The Igede people are a smaller ethnic group in Benue State, primarily located in the Oju and Obi Local Government Areas. They are known for their expertise in hunting and gathering; The Etulo people are another ethnic group in Benue State, primarily located in the Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. They are known for their rich cultural heritage and skilled farming practices; The Agatu people are a smaller ethnic group in Benue State, primarily located in the Agatu Local Government Area. They are known for their expertise in fishing and farming.
These are just a few of the major tribes in Benue State. The state is home to many other ethnic groups, each with its unique culture and traditions but with a common entity that destroys what could have been the beauty of the cultural diversity in the state, they hold grievances against one another. They never agree. They never feel relieved seeing their contemporaries in the same state, making progress; they always want themselves down for celebration.
This has been age-long in the area and despite these internal grievances, their separation is coupled with another common hostility they face together from their neighboring Fulani tribe which is annually fueled by the usual herder-farmer conflict.
The RoundTable traced the emerging story to Benue State where the non-Tiv tribe would never, in the first place, want a Tiv man, George Akume or whoever, to be appointed to such a highly ranked position or want him impeached before daybreak to claim levels.
The claim is just another one of the utterances fueled by ethnic differences among citizens of Nigeria.
