BREAKING: Police Impound 4 Trucks, Arrest Suspects For Blocking Highway Over Accident

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has charged four suspects to court for obstructing a public highway, following an incident that occurred on Monday night.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a press statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the obstruction followed a reckless accident involving a truck driver employed by Sterling Global Construction Company.
John explained that at about 9:00 p.m, the truck driver hit a tricycle carrying passengers, and damaged the vehicle and injured the occupants.
The PPRO said in an attempt to prevent the driver from fleeing, four other truck drivers mobilized and deliberately blocked the highway, which disrupted traffic.
“The four trucks were impounded at the station, and four suspects were arrested, investigated, and charged to court accordingly,” she stated.
She further noted that police officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and restore normalcy but they faced resistance from the truck drivers.
While reaffirming the command’s stance against lawlessness, John warned that anyone found obstructing highways or taking the law into their own hands would face legal consequences.
“The Command, under the leadership of CP Baba Mohammed Azare, remains steadfast in ensuring law and order across the state. We urge all road users and members of the public to conduct themselves responsibly and cooperate with the police in fostering a safe and orderly society,” she added.
