The meeting was convened to interface with religious, market and security agents ahead of the #EndBadGovernance protests in the country.

The CP said: “We have had a meeting of this nature and what informed this is the peace and security in Lagos State.

“If the protest holds, we will be there to protect the rights of everyone. We will ensure that there is no damage.”

Also speaking, Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Olusesan Mayokun Daini, said: “Protest is not what we need now because it will not solve anything.

“I believe that protests should only come after people are not getting good results from their agitation.”

Meanwhile, Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos chapter, Alimi Idris, and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Ndi Eze Igbo in Diaspora Worldwide, Uche Dimgba, have stated that they will not partake in the August protest.

Dimgba said that the Igbo in Lagos State would not partake as protest is not part and parcel of the Igbo tribe.

Also, the President-General of Ladipo Market, Africanus Ogudoro, also stated that the Ladipo market will be fully open on August 1.

Executive Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof Ishaq Akintola, warned against staging of the proposed protest in Lagos State, saying that said the state does not deserve it.

Similarly, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ruled out possibility of any protest within the territory, particularly the planned #EndBadGovernance protest scheduled to begin on August 1, 2024 nationwide.

Wike, who made the declaration after a meeting of the FCT Security Council in Abuja, told residents not to join “armed robbers” for any protest.

“Don’t go and follow these armed robbers on the road who said they want to protest. There is nothing like protest. Abuja won’t be part of it. What you want is good governance and we are willing to give you good governance.

“We want to make it categorically clear that the day is a day the entire six area councils in the FCT will be meeting to recognise and give out certificates of honour to their traditional rulers.

“So, we will not allow anybody to disrupt the peace and set us back. For those who want to protest on August 1 or thereabout, FCT is not available for such protest,” the minister told a crowd of jubilant residents in pidgin.
