This was revealed in a statement posted on the official X account of the Presidency, @NGRPresident, on Saturday night.

The statement, which was signed under “The Presidency” rather than by an individual, confirmed that Ngelale’s request for leave had been accepted.

“The President has received a memo from Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media & Publicity and Official Presidential Spokesperson, as well as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, informing him of his decision to take an indefinite leave of absence for personal and health reasons.

“The President fully understands and sympathizes with the reasons behind this decision and has accepted Ngelale’s request,” part of the statement read.

The President also acknowledged Ngelale’s “tireless dedication and contributions to national discourse, climate action, and other key initiatives” and expressed his gratitude for Ngelale’s service to the nation.

The statement further called for the public to respect Ngelale and his family’s privacy during this time.

Earlier, Ngelale had announced his decision to step down from his roles within the Presidency, citing family-related reasons. He noted that the decision followed extensive consultations with his family due to a worsening medical condition.

In addition to his role as the President’s spokesperson, Ngelale also stepped down as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
