The meeting, which is currently underway, has taken precedence over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting that was earlier scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Ministers who had arrived for the FEC meeting were seen departing the Council Chambers at around noon, with only a few ministers present at the time of the rescheduling.
Sources close to the Presidency suggest that the security meeting may be connected to the ongoing protests, which have been calling for an end to bad governance and economic hardship.
President Tinubu had earlier appealed to protesters to suspend their action and come forward for dialogue in a nationwide broadcast on Sunday morning.
