They said Paul had spent over nine days in police detention after he was accused of resembling a kidnapper without the police investigating the matter.
It was gathered that Paul, otherwise known as DJ Animal in Nsukka metropolis, was accused by a man, Ifeanyi Asogwa, of looking like one of the members of a gang who abducted him recently.
Asogwa, a younger brother to Nsukka Local Government Chairman, Jude Chinedu Asogwa, was said to have accosted Paul in a shop in the town before claiming that he resembles one of those who kidnapped and demanded N400, 000 from him.
Immediately, a team of policemen from Nsukka Police Division came and whisked Paul away.
He was said to have been later detained at the Criminal Investigation Department in Enugu for the past nine days without the police making efforts to arraign him.
The spokesperson for the aggrieved concerned residents, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, explained that, “DJ Animal was at his sister’s shop around Nsukka town when someone came inside the shop and tagged him a kidnapper and immediately called the police to arrest him.
“The person who allegedly tagged him a kidnapper is Ifeanyi Asogwa, younger brother to Nsukka Local govt chairman Engr Jude Asogwa Chinedu.
“He (Ifeanyi) said DJ Animal looks or resembles people that wore yellow and black masks to kidnap him and demanded for N400, 000 ransom. From there, DJ Animal was arrested and detained at area command Nsukka and was later moved to Enugu CID till now.
“This looks like intimidation from somewhere.”
He added, “We visited the state CID Enugu and the police said that they will be coming to Nsukka for the first time for investigation. Since he was arrested, detained and dumped at state CID, no investigation or arraignment if not that we started talking. This is just pure intimidation to this young man.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Daniel Ndukwe could not be reached for reaction.
