Ahead of the planned nationwide protest by some Nigerian youth, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has said that protest will not work, adding that only “a total, unyielding, relentless revolt will”. He called for mass disobedience, claiming that the current government is illegitimate......Read The Full Article>>.....Read The Full Article>>
Gbadamosi also suggested total refusal to pay taxes to the government.
“Necessary because this is criminal and illegitimate government, not made clear by the fact of their illegal pronouncement as winner or the manifestly fraudulent judicial endorsement of same.
“Flowing from the above, total refusal to give taxes to a criminal government that aids, abets and empowers criminals of all sorts, from smugglers, to kidnappers, to mass murderers, all across the country. You should not be empowering your tormentors,” the former governorship candidate of the African Democratic Party (ADP) said on X.
Gbadamosi asked the youth not to rush into protest, but to plan quietly and build an immovable force.
“Open, relentless and vigorous revolt against their criminal enforcers, regardless of garb, by any means necessary. They may have the means to bribe a few milion people, but they can never have enough to bribe enough people to overwhelm 50 milion determined Nigerians.
“If you want them out, this is the number you have to aim for. It is possible, LGA by LGA, regardless of ethnicjty, Religion, gender or Age!!
“Don’t rush into a protest. Plan quietly and build an immovable force sọ big that them being aware will be meaningless and their only recourse will be to cleverly back àwa and rún like hell, based on the numbers.
“You’ve see how the Kenyans did it. You have more numbers, and if you’re numerous enough and completely uncompromising, indigenous Nigerians in the forces will side with you,” he added.
The planned protest tagged “End Bad Gvernment in Nigeria”, is scheduled to hold from August 1-10,2024.
The organisers of the protest in flyers circulating on social media are demanding judicial reform, a declaration of a state of emergency on inflation, reopening of the national borders, among others.
Out of concern for the potential dangers such protest poses, so many appeals have been made by some influential Nigerians to the youth to call off the planned protest in the interest of the nation, and seek dialogue with the government.
