The former Ijaw youth activist, who appealed in an interview in Yenagoa lamented that Nigerians are getting renewed poverty under the APC-led Federal Government.
He urged the President to take an inward look into his administration and re-jig his policies to bring down the high cost of living in the country.
Ekerefe, who is the national leader of the New Era Movement, a Niger Delta advocacy group, attributed the hardship in the country to the removal of fuel subsidies, saying, the present hike is like a death sentence on the already traumatized masses struggling to survive.
He said: “It will be a great disservice to the country to remain silent in the face of the biting hardship in the country as a result of the mismanagement of the country’s economy, especially in the last year.
While the Nigerian people were hoping to see the improvement of the economy giving Mr. President renewed hope mantra, the arbitrary removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the Forex by the CBN one year later, there is no sign that things will improve.
“The cost of living has spiralled and the hardship has become more pervasive and excruciating in the land.
“Hunger and starvation are killing our people every day and the government has further compounded the woes of Nigerians with the sudden hike in the pump price of fuel.”
He added: “Mr President should work seriously at taming the suffering of the masses. And one sure way is to reverse the price of fuel and this will bring down the cost of food and the cost of living in the country.
“He should also recalibrate his failing economic team and bring in more competent people with fresh ideas that will help him restore the economy at these perilous times.”
