Speaking at the 2024 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos, Akpabio highlighted the significance of this decision. He urged the legal community to view themselves as pivotal agents of transformation in Nigeria.
“We are committed to establishing a solid legal framework that will resonate with the aspirations of all Nigerians,” Akpabio stated. “Our return to the old anthem represents a commitment to unity, despite our diverse backgrounds. The anthem embodies our collective strength and resolve to stand together, transcending our differences.”
The Senate President elaborated on the rationale behind the decision, noting that the anthem’s message of unity—”though tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand”—reflects the core values needed to rebuild the nation. He underscored that the anthem serves as a reminder of the nation’s potential when its citizens come together in solidarity.
Akpabio also reflected on his journey in politics, sharing his experiences of transforming Akwa Ibom State, which he described as an “uncommon transformation.” He expressed confidence that, in partnership with President Tinubu, this vision of renewal could extend to the entire country.
