The Chief Executive Officer of Educare, Alex Onyia, has accused South-West Governors of not promoting the Nigerian local automobile brand, Nord Motors. Nord Automobiles is a Nigerian automotive manufacturer with headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
The Educare CEO said none of the governors have the Nord brand as the official vehicle or part of their convoy, unlike their counterparts in the South-East that petronise Innoson Motor Vehicle.
“Nord Motors has its manufacturing plant in Lagos but none of the South Western governors uses it as the official vehicle or even part of their convoy. In the South-East, Soludo and Alex Otti proudly use Innoson Vehicles as their official vehicles and convoy,” he said.
Nord Motors was founded in 2017 by Oluwatobi Ajayi with the vision to be the “Nigeria-branded global automotive company that designs and assembles premium vehicles at relatively competitive cost while offering easy access to full ownership.”
Currently, the company has a variety of models including the Nord Tank, Nord Max, Nord Tusk, Nord Flit, Nord A3 Sedan, Nord A5 SUV, Nord A7 SUV, Nord Yarn, Nord Tripper and Nord Demir.
But the Educare CEO said South West governors must play their part in saving the naira by buying made in Nigeria automobiles.
Onyia said, “This is a strong way of promoting local content. We are not saying you should (not) use Innoson but patronize your own brother. They are all made in Nigeria.
“Support that young man to encourage more people to innovate in your states. You can’t increase the value of naira when you are the chief of buying foreign made products.”
He decried that instead of supporting local companies, government officials prefer spending billions on foreign brands.
“We are proud of Toyota Prado and Mercedes and will spend billions to acquire them, but no public figure from those countries will ever use a Made-in-Nigeria product over theirs,” he added.
