Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a scathing warning to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors supporting his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, threatening to ignite political crises in their states if they continue to meddle in Rivers’ affairs......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
Wike vowed to retaliate against any governor who tries to control Rivers’ political structure, saying, “I’ll put fire in their states… I have the capacity to do the same thing in your state.”
Wike gave the warning on Saturday when he led other delegates to participate in the controversial Rivers State PDP Congress, held under tight security at the party’s state secretariat despite conflicting court orders on it.
The FCT Minister, while addressing delegates, vowed not to leave the People’s Democratic Party amid the current crisis bedevilling it, but defiantly declared, “I don’t give a damn” about their states of origin, warning that they will face political upheaval and be unable to govern effectively.
He accused the governors of trying to destroy the PDP, saying, “You are the ones trying to destroy PDP, not me.”
“Let me tell people, I hear that some governors say they will take away the structure and give it back to somebody. I put it to you governors because I will put fire in their states.
“When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace, then whatever you see, you take. I don’t understand; simply because I hear they got money from this signature bonus, their heads are getting big that they will put their hand in my own state. Prepare, because I have the capacity to also do the same thing in your own state.
“Even if you are from Bauchi, I don’t give a damn; whichever state you come from, as far as I know that you are trying to put yourself in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt and you will never sleep in your state. You will never do governance again; you will see political crisis, as far as PDP is concerned.
“So I’ve told them, now you have started; when I start, don’t say I’m the one that destroyed PDP. You are the one that is trying to destroy PDP.
“Allow Rivers State to conduct the affairs of the party. We are aware of these unstable characters; we know that they are joining APP. Let them wait during the time; they should face us in the election. Don’t bother about our abuses; we have thick skin. We don’t even know what abuse is, so don’t say anybody is abusing me. If I’m nothing, they will not abuse me.”
Wike, however, sent a strong message to Governor Fubara’s camp, declaring that he won’t beg for political relevance. He alluded to Fubara, saying, “They thought we’d come begging, but we’re not begging.”
He confidently asserted his political influence, stating, “If we’re talking about politics in Nigeria, we’re more relevant than them.” He warned that if he were to leave the PDP, it would trigger a “tsunami” in the political landscape.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, the members of the State Executive Council, the 23 local government caretaker committee members, and other loyalists of the governor boycotted the exercise.
