According to reports, EFCC operatives are interrogating Bello, although it’s unclear whether he was arrested or voluntarily turned himself in with his lawyers.
This development comes after the EFCC declared Bello wanted in April 2024 for allegedly shunning invitations and resisting arrest. The anti-graft agency had also stormed his Abuja residence, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Bello’s troubles with the EFCC date back to April 2024, when he was served with charges relating to alleged N80.2 billion money laundering. He has repeatedly failed to appear in court for arraignment, prompting the court to issue a public summons in October 2024.
The EFCC had sought an adjournment until November 27, 2024, to allow Bello to respond to the public summons. However, with Bello now in custody, it remains to be seen how the case will unfold.
