Former Legal Adviser to the Peoples Democratic Party, Mark Jacob, has condemned FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over his threat against PDP Governors who are in support of Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
Reacting to Wike’s threat to invoke political unrest at the PDP governors’ state, Jacob, in an interview on Arise TV earlier today, noted that Wike cannot threaten a sitting governor who is not under him.
Jacob reminded Wike that the governors he threatened were duly elected and not under the subject of an ‘appointed’ minister who can be removed any time.
Jacob challenged the FCT Minister to test his power and influence at Bauchi state while also faulting the National Broadcasting Commission for allowing such derogratory statement on national Television.
“You cannot, in a decency and sincerity, threaten sitting governors that are not at all under you.
“I am shocked that the NBC even allowed such language to be used. There has been no warning, no caution that somebody can sit down on live camera and say that the he has capacity to unleash fire on states and nobody is saying anything.
“Instead, he is being applauded for being a rascal. How on earth did we get here?
“If it was Igboho, or Kanu that said this kind of thing or maybe our brother, Asari Dokubo, the security agencies would be running all over the place looking for them.
“A sitting minister will go all out on live broadcast and threaten to unleash fire on states because of politics and nothing has happened. That is a height of impunity! That is a height of rascality! That is the apex anybody willing to be called a thug can go to.” He said.
Meanwhile, Jacob condemned Wike’s conduction of the Party’s Congress in Rivers, which he said is the responsibility of the state governor.
“There is a sitting governor on the ticket of the PDP in Rivers state and that someone else is coming to conduct congresses in the state other than the sitting governor is an aberration.
“People may have their reasons for doing what they are doing. But this is a big law no law. It is a complete sham. It is a total disregard to the tenets of the party and the constitution of the party because, by his (Fubara) position as the governor, you cannot take him out of the equation.
“I don’t know what they did to hand over the materials of the Congresses to someone who is not the governor. Until you remove the governor, it is completely wrong and outrageous for you to have someone else come to take this position and conduct Congress.” He added.
