Chelsea’s season did end on a high note but it’s fair to say that the squad as a whole performed well below expectations. Manager Mauricio Pochettino has to take his share of the blame for that, but there were mitigating circumstances. The injury list remained stubbornly long for the majority of the campaign, while some high-profile players failed to make the expected impact......Read The Full Article>>.....Read The Full Article>>
Press the next page as we give season ratings for every Chelsea player who made five or more appearances during the 2023/24 season.
Djordje Petrovic – 6.5/10 – filled in capably in the absence of the injured Sanchez but, based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s clear he isn’t a top-class keeper.
Robert Sanchez – 4.5/10 – put in one or two decent performances but the summer signing from Brighton struggled to stay fit and he is prone to errors when passing out from the back.
Reece James – 4/10 – injuries have restricted the club captain’s game time but, even in the 11 games he did play, the fullback still managed to pick up 2 red cards.
Malo Gusto – 9/10 – really took his opportunity in James’s absence. The right-back has had fitness issues of his own but 9 assists in 37 appearances is an excellent return.
Axel Disasi – 5.5/10 – has looked decent when asked to defend on the back foot but he is a limited player. Chelsea won’t win titles with the 26-year-old as first-choice.
Alfie Gilchrist – 5.5/10 – after being handed his senior debut by Pochettino, the defender has shown a great attitude and desire. Was ecstatic when he scored his first goal for the Blues.
Trevoh Chalobah – 8.5/10 – was on the treatment table for the first half of the season but he has been ever-present since his comeback. One of the team’s most consistent performers.
Thiago Silva – 6.5/10 – began to show his age at times this season and it seems like the right time for the 39-year-old to move on to pasture’s new.
Levi Colwill – 6/10 – his first season as a regular starter probably didn’t go as well as he expected. A toe injury in recent months meant he ended the season on the bench.
Benoit Badiashile – 4.5/10 – the Frenchman had his own injury problems and we have only really seen the best of him in the closing weeks of the campaign. There is time for him to improve but he shouldn’t be picked ahead of Colwill.
Marc Cucurella – 6.5/10 – the left-back could have joined Manchester United on loan at the start of the season but he has gradually turned around his Chelsea career to establish himself as a regular starter.
Ben Chilwell – 4/10 – injuries and poor form have made it a pretty bad first season as vice-captain. The main goal for him (and James) is to simply stay fit and see how things go from there.
Moises Caicedo – 7/10 – the British record signing found life tough during the opening months at Stamford Bridge but he was superb in the closing few weeks of the season.
Lesley Ugochukwu – 5/10 – hard to judge the 20-year-old who spent the best part of six months out with a hamstring injury.
Carney Chukwuemeka – 5.5/10 – scored against West Ham and Leicester (in the FA Cup) but his injuries have limited his minutes. Some promising signs though.
Cesare Casadei – 5/10 – nearly all of the Italian’s appearances were cameos off the bench so no real definitive judgements can be made.
Enzo Fernandez – 4.5/10 – had flashes of inspiration (such as the Villa game in the FA Cup), but he struggled to stamp his mark on most fixtures. How much of that was down to his hernia issue is anyone’s guess.
Conor Gallagher – 8/10 – took the captain’s armband in the absence of James and Chilwell. He led by example with his pressing and high work rate.
Mykhailo Mudryk – 5.5/10 – 7 goals and 2 assists in 41 appearances is very average for someone who cost £89m. Will he ever realise his potential?
Raheem Sterling – 5.5/10 – the England international actually has a better record than Mudryk (10 goals and 8 assists) but, for such an experienced player, he should be a lot more consistent.
Cole Palmer – 10/10 – 25 goals and 15 assists – not much more needs to be said. Chelsea’s Player of the Season by a country mile.
Noni Madueke – 7.5/10 – the winger lacks a bit of direction and his decision-making must improve but there is clearly a big talent there.
Christopher Nkunku – 4.5/10 – had a couple of decent games but his injury problems have curtailed his effectiveness during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Nicolas Jackson – 8.5/10 – there is no doubt the Senegalese forward can improve in his finishing but 17 goals in his first year with the Blues is a pretty decent record.
