Corps Member Abducted, Forced to Withdraw N600,000 by Kwara State Police Officers

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has detailed how police officers in Kwara State arrested him without stating his crime before forcing him to withdraw N600,000 under duress for them......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>

The corps member, who revealed this on X(formerly Twitter), said that per his understanding, the police kidnapped him in Ajase, Irepodun Local Government Area, on Sunday.

He said that the police drove him to an unknown destination after the arrest, with several thickly uncultivated areas on the way.

“No single human being would have heard my cry. They told me to open all my bank accounts and to withdraw N600,000,” the X user tweeted.

He said the police officers then drove him back to a nearby town, where they collected his phones and bag. After they had confiscated his property, he said, they then told him to go look for point-of-sale operators to withdraw.

When he found two operators, he wrote their account numbers down, took a motorcycle to where the officers were and then transferred N600,000 to the account numbers.

“I then took the same bike back to the shops to collect the money after they confirmed the transfer,” the corps member said.

After that, I submitted it to the so-called police officers. One of them said, ‘Don’t you know that’s how we do it in Ilorin?’”

“The same police officers drove me to the main express, dropped me, parked a few metres from me and watched me until I entered another bus to my initial destination.

“What was my offense? They said they didn’t believe I’m a corps member because I was not with my NYSC identity card. I told them I would open the NYSC portal, but they said they wanted only physical documents.”

When FIJ called Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), he did not take his calls. He had also not responded to a text sent to him at press time.
